PAREXEL Baltimore Clinical Pharmacology Research Unit
The Baltimore CPRU is a highly specialized hospital-based research Unit with 90 critical care level beds and access to hundreds of local and regional investigators. Located within a multi-hospital network near FDA headquarters, the NIH campus, and Washington, DC, the Unit features an extensive and experienced clinical staff. Our professionals include full-time physicians, a pharmacist and pharmacy technician, clinical research nurses with critical care backgrounds and advanced cardiac life support certification, and a team of research coordinators, research assistants and research technicians, many of whom are foreign-trained physicians or Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
The Unit also boasts state of the art equipment for First in Man, telemetric cardiac monitoring, complex ECG, QT-intensive, and other complex clinical trials, plus a dedicated respiratory research area, including whole-body plethysmography. Onsite clinical data management, biostatistics, pharmacokinetic analysis, and medical writing capabilities allow for complete solutions for clinical pharmacology study requirements, from protocol design to final study report.
Specific capabilities and collaborations include:
- Pulmonary – including safety studies with serial PFTs and Dlco, as well as PD/PK studies including spirometry or adenosine challenge in asthma
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET) – receptor-occupancy neuroimaging through a collaboration with a local university-based center
- Oncology – collaboration with an onsite Cancer Center at Harbor Hospital Center offers ready access to hundreds of oncology patients and 9 oncologists at the practice
- Neurology and Psychology – collaboration with the hospital's neurology department and area psychologists to perform clinical EEG and other neuropsychiatric assessments
- Vaccine and immunobiology – including First in Man for recombinant vaccines, DNA vaccines, and monoclonal antibodies
