PAREXEL Institute of Clinical Pharmacology
Founded in 1977, PAREXEL’s CPRU in Berlin boasts 30 years of experience in early clinical drug development. We operate two hospital-based Units with up to 156 beds. The Westend Unit is located on the Red Cross Hospital Campus and a patient's ward with 30 beds is located on the campus of the Vivantes Hospital Neukölln. This capacity allows scheduling of larger study cohorts in parallel. Both Units are managed centrally and run exclusively by experienced PAREXEL staff. Additionally, each Unit has dedicated PAREXEL medical teams. The use of the same equipment, the same electronic data capturing system and the same SOPs assures harmonized procedures and workflows.
The cooperation with the Vivantes Hospital group grants PAREXEL access to an extensive variety of patient populations, facilities and equipment. The combination of scientific expertise of an academic site and PAREXEL's long-standing experience in drug development enables the Berlin CPRUs excellent recruitment opportunities especially with a view towards the increasing demand for patient studies in early clinical drug development.
An experienced and well trained staff specializes in performing all types of studies from First in Man to Proof of Concept. Capabilities include telemetric cardiac monitoring, complex ECG and QTc studies, and a dedicated respiratory research area featuring ozone challenge and whole-body plethysmography. The Units also offer state of the art sleep research areas including an eight bed sleep laboratory and expertise in CNS, dermatology, metabolism and endocrine diseases, and infectious diseases.
The volunteer database at the Berlin site includes more than 6,500 active healthy subjects between 18-65 years and more than 600 elderly healthy subjects 65 years and above. Approximately 3,000 subjects are non-smokers. Also, a substantial number of volunteers are genotyped.
The Ethics Committee in Berlin has six separate commissions with one EC meeting per week, which puts the CPRUs at an advantage by contributing to reduced timelines for clients.
