Volumetric assessments of organs or lesions are an increasing area of clinical trial investigation.  Parexel's medical imaging group, has been performing centralized volumetric assessments since 1998.

Currently, Parexel is very active in the Quantitative Imaging Biomarker Alliance (QIBA). Specifically, Dr. Rudresh Jarecha DMRE, DNB, Associate Medical Director has been deeply involved in the CT Volumetry Technical Committee.  Furthermore, with his initiative and support, Parexel participated in a QIBA Volumetric CT 3A Challenge – PIVOTAL Study which evaluated algorithmic variability in the estimation of lung nodule volume from phantom CT scans.  Parexel has co-authored the associated paper which was reviewed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).  Additionally, Parexel participated in QIBA 3A Volumetry Study of Clinical data for NSCLC. 

Benefiting from the breadth and depth of internal experts, Parexel has developed technology and methods for the evaluation of a wide range of medically relevant volumes.

​​​Parexel's systems include several regions of interest (ROI) tools that allow the users to perform complicated volumetric analysis including:

  1. Free-Hand – Draw shapes freely
  2. Auto-Segment – Plant multiple seed points and bounding ROI automatically
  3. Hyper/Hypo Intense Tool – Plant one seed point and grow ROI automatically, allowing flexibility of foreground and background contrast
  4. Density Slicing – Define ROI based upon tissue density
  5. Shrink Wrap – A snap to fit algorithm that conforms to differences in pixel intensity values
  6. Add/Remove – Add or remove area / volume from existing ROI/VOI freehand
  7. Nudge – Adjusted ROI created by segmentation algorithm manually  
  8. Range to ROI  – Numerically define upper and lower thresholds based upon pixel intensity and Hounsfield units (HU)
  9. PET tumor volumes
  10. PET Isotherm – Generate ROI/VOI based on standardized uptake value (SUV) tumor by percentages of SUV max
  11. SUV Peak  – Generate a size constrained spheric SUV mean representing the largest possible SUV mean within a tumor volume
