Real World Data can help enhance potential for market launch success

How the right expertise at the right time can help you deliver impactful therapies to patients

So, you’re preparing to launch a new therapy to markets around the world.  How do you develop a strategy that accounts for the dynamic changes in clinical care as well as treatment patterns over the next five years for the condition your therapy is designed to treat?

Real World Data (RWD) can play a key part in developing this strategy. Recently, Parexel leveraged untraditional data sources to help unlock the potential of a new therapy. Parexel identified three data sources that had good coverage in specific markets: 1) an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data source from a large regional community healthcare system in the US; 2) a commercial EMR+ claims database covering a European market; and 3) a condition-specific data registry supported by thousands of treating physicians around the world.

We aggregated these sources into a data reservoir and mapped them into a common data model for analysis.  Given the significant differences in the data sources, we recognized the importance of advanced biomedical data science expertise to the success of this project to create an appropriate data set for the end analysis.  Our approach allowed us to address the cost and complexity barriers inherent in traditional study designs at the outset.  As a result, we were able to create a view into the impact of new therapies for patients our industry might have overlooked otherwise.

This example illustrates the importance of adding the right expertise at the right time in our efforts to help our customers deliver better treatments for patients who need them.
