Imagining & Realizing Tomorrow's Life Sciences Industry

Imagine if… we all focused every day on the impact we can make by bringing new treatments to patients more quickly.

BY Peyton Howell, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial & Strategy Officer, Parexel - 9.4.19

Over the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege to work in many roles across the healthcare landscape.  Regardless of the role, I’ve always focused my energies on improving the patient experience and patient access to care.

It was rewarding to see this highlighted as part of my recognition in this year’s PharmaVOICE 100.  When Taren Grom, the Editor of PharmaVOICE, asked me in a video interview to complete the phrase “Imagine If…”.  For me, the answer was clear: Imagine if we all focused every day on the impact we can make by bringing new treatments to patients more quickly. Imagine if every patient that needed a clinical drug had access to it.

As Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial & Strategy Officer at Parexel, I take personally the opportunity we have to ensure new therapies are developed efficiently and effectively.  When you consider that on average it takes 12 years to bring a new therapy to market, any reduction in the drug development process is significant for patients who are waiting for new therapies and adopting innovations can help with this.

Likewise, making it as easy as possible for patients to participate in clinical trials through patient-centric trial designs can be life-changing.  Clinical trials must also consider patient access and reimbursement, health outcomes and patient compliance and engagement.  These are the sorts of issues that motivate me every day.

Time is precious to patients and the more efficient and patient-centered we can be as an industry, the faster we can get important medicines to the people who need them.  Patients are waiting so let’s rise to the challenge.

What is your “Imagine if…?”
